Breast reduction aesthetics is a surgical procedure performed to bring excessively large and sagging breasts into proportion with the body. Medically known as reduction mammaplasty, it both provides an aesthetic appearance and eliminates physical complaints caused by large breasts (such as neck and back pain, posture disorders, bra marks on the shoulders, skin irritation).
A detailed examination of the patient is performed by a specialist plastic surgeon before the surgery. Breast size, skin elasticity, general health status and expectations of the patient are evaluated. If necessary, imaging methods such as mammography are used. If smoking, it is recommended to quit at least 2 weeks before the surgery.
Breast reduction surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes an average of 2.5 to 4 hours. The surgeon removes excess breast tissue, fat and skin to make the breasts smaller, firmer and more aesthetic. The nipple is also repositioned. The surgical technique is determined according to the patient's breast structure (techniques such as inverted T, lollipop or vertical scar).
Patients are usually kept under observation in the hospital for 1 night after surgery. During this process, pain control is provided and if a drain is placed, it can be removed the next day. Before leaving the hospital, information is given about the use of a special medical bra.
